I. MANAGEMENT AND INSIGHT

The Asenso Misamis Occidental Refuge is a critical shelter facility dedicated to providing support for minor survivors of violence against women and children (VAWC) across Misamis Occidental Province. Managed by the Provincial Gender and Development Office, this refuge is currently accommodating twelve minor survivors along with one infant.

The primary purpose of the Asenso Misamis Occidental Refuge is to create a safe and nurturing environment while offering comprehensive support services to minors who have faced VAWC incidents within the province. These services aim to aid in the recovery and overall well-being of the survivors during their stay at the shelter.

Furthermore, the shelter operates under the management and supervision of the Provincial Gender and Development Office. This ensures that all services provided are in line with government standards and policies concerning the protection and welfare of VAWC survivors.

II. Services Offered

  • Counseling and Psychological Support: Trained professionals conduct counseling sessions to assist survivors in coping with trauma and emotional distress resulting from their experiences.
  • Legal Assistance: Survivors receive and support in navigating legal processes, including assistance from legal officers during ongoing cases.
  • Medical and Dental Care: The shelter ensures access to healthcare services, providing survivors with necessary medical attention and dental care to address physical injuries and hygiene needs.
  • Educational Support: Minors receive a daily allowance of Fifty pesos (“Baon”) for school expenses. Additionally, the Provincial Gender and Development Office supplies complete sets of school materials to enrolled minors to support their educational endeavors.
  • Livelihood and Skills Training: Collaborations with agencies like TESDA and DTI facilitate skills training and livelihood.
  • Therapeutic Activity: Quarterly, all minor survivors have the opportunity to participate in educational tours to places such as exclusive resorts, broadening their experiences beyond the shelter environment.
  • Financial Assistance: Quarterly financial assistance of Five Thousand Pesos is provided to each minor survivor for additional shelter needs, including clothing and other hygiene necessities.
  • Birthday Celebrations: Each minor survivor’s birthday is celebrated with special preparations, fostering a supportive and celebratory atmosphere within the shelter.
