Misamis Occidental – In a heartwarming and inspiring Christmas address, Governor Henry Oaminal expressed deep gratitude to the employees of the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental (PGMO) during their annual Christmas party, held to celebrate the festive season and reflect on the remarkable achievements of the past year.

He shared his heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering commitment to public service, highlighting their critical role in the province’s growth and success.

“This year isn’t just about the festivities, the food, or the gifts—it’s about recognizing the heart and soul of what makes Misamis Occidental thrive: you—our dedicated public servants,” he emphasized. “Your hard work and dedication have been the cornerstone of our progress, and I am deeply grateful for your service.”

Reflecting on a Year of Milestones

Governor Oaminal highlighted significant achievements across various sectors, underscoring the collective effort that made these accomplishments possible.

Infrastructure Development

With more than 3 billion pesos invested in infrastructure projects this year, the province has seen improvements in key areas like tourism, healthcare, and education. Projects such as the construction of multi-purpose buildings, road concreting, and water systems have all been implemented without resorting to borrowing, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

Healthcare Progress

Governor Oaminal lauded the success of the province’s free hospitalization program, which has helped over 42,000 individuals. He also shared exciting news about the Asenso Misamis Occidental Medical Center, which is 70% complete and expected to open next year, providing modern healthcare facilities for the province’s growing population.

Agriculture and Education

The Asenso Rice Farmers Full Assistance (ARFFA) program has significantly boosted rice yields, reaching an average of 5.3 metric tons per hectare. Meanwhile, the Asenso Pamilya: One Family, One Professional program has benefitted 2,862 individuals, producing 343 graduates—empowering the next generation of leaders.

Tourism and Economic Growth

Governor Oaminal proudly highlighted the success of the Panguil Bay Bridge, inaugurated in September, which will undoubtedly boost tourism and economic activities in the region. He also mentioned the completion of the Asenso Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park (60%) and the Asenso Global Gardens, which has seen a 216% increase in tourist arrivals since the opening of the bridge.

Peace and Security

A historic milestone was achieved when Misamis Occidental was declared insurgency-free by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on September 27, 2024. This achievement reflects the province’s commitment to peace and security, creating a stable environment for economic and social development.

Prestigious Awards and Recognition

The year has been one of recognition and honor for the province, with several key awards marking its achievements:

  • Gawad Parangal: Misamis Occidental received the prestigious Gawad Parangal Award for its exemplary performance in fostering peace and unity, particularly in conflict-vulnerable areas.
  • Gawad Kalasag: The province was also honored with the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence for its outstanding disaster risk management efforts.
  • Economic Growth: Misamis Occidental’s remarkable revenue growth of 66.49% in 2023 has propelled it to become one of the top-performing provinces in the country.
  • Reclassification to First-Class Province: The province was officially reclassified from second-class to first-class, reflecting its substantial economic progress and enhanced quality of life for its residents.

As the year draws to a close, Governor Oaminal expressed optimism for the future, noting that the province has come a long way from being among the poorest to achieving impressive economic and social progress.
