
OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental swiftly extended humanitarian assistance to affected communities in Iligan City following heavy rains and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Basyang on February 6.
The severe weather prompted several families in Iligan City to evacuate as floodwaters affected low-lying areas, creating an urgent need for food, potable water, and other basic necessities.
In response, the Provincial Government, through the initiative of Governor Henry S. Oaminal, in partnership with Asenso Pinoy led by Representative Henry “Indy” Oaminal, mobilized immediate relief operations through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). Relief distribution was conducted with the support of the 10th Infantry Battalion to ensure timely delivery of assistance to affected communities.
A total of 1,500 food packs, 1,500 rice supplies, and over 900 units of drinking water, were delivered to displaced families to support their immediate recovery needs.

Governor Oaminal, who also serves as Chairperson of the Regional Development Council–10 (RDC-X), emphasized the importance of translating the vision of “Mas Asenso para sa Northern Mindanao” into concrete action, particularly through swift inter-provincial cooperation during emergencies. To this, Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao said, “We’re very fortunate to have Misamis Occidental helping us.”
In addition to the relief goods, Governor Oaminal, through the Provincial Engineer’s Office, deployed two backhoe loaders and one loader to Iligan City on February 8 to assist in urgent clearing operations following the flooding
The relief mission highlights Misamis Occidental’s continuing commitment to extend assistance not only within the province but also to neighboring communities across Northern Mindanao. (PGMO).
