
OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental convened its stakeholders for the first-ever ASENSO Agriculture Summit 2026, aimed at aligning programs and priorities to strengthen support for farmers and fisherfolk.
Held from February 4 to 5 at the Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural Center, the two-day summit gathered agriculture agencies, local chief executives, technical personnel, and development partners to harmonize interventions focused on food security, agricultural productivity, and fisheries development.
During the first day, government agencies presented their 2026 interventions and services, including the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office X’s push for digitalization and integration of farmer and project data to improve program delivery and encourage youth participation in agriculture.
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) discussed mechanization services, while the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) outlined its soil and water resource management initiatives.
Governor Henry S. Oaminal emphasized that the province’s agriculture programs will remain anchored on people-centered development, ensuring that projects translate into tangible benefits for farming and fishing communities.
On the second day, agencies covering irrigation, coconut, fisheries, and coastal development presented priority programs and convergence opportunities, including coconut planting initiatives, irrigation system development, a proposed provincial soil laboratory, and FishCORE matching grants for livelihood and enterprise support.
Provincial and local agriculture offices, together with partner agencies, are committed to sustained coordination to ensure that aligned programs will effectively respond to the needs of Misamisnon farmers and fisherfolk. (PGMO)
